Garbage In, Garbage Out -- On Purpose

For some odd reason, people are always giving Bush the benefit of the doubt. It must be the office, even though Bush took that office illegally by way of Supreme Court putsch.

For instance, James P. Riccio, a Greenpeace policy analyst, says Bush "misspoke," as the Boston Globe characterizes it, in his 2002 State of the Union address.

"Our discoveries in Afghanistan confirmed our worst fears and showed us the true scope of the task ahead," said Bush. "We have seen the depth of our enemies' hatred in videos where they laugh about the loss of innocent life. And the depth of their hatred is equaled by the madness of the destruction they design. We have found diagrams of American nuclear power plants and public water facilities, detailed instructions for making chemical weapons, surveillance maps of American cities, and thorough descriptions of landmarks in America and throughout the world."

But the NRC says there's no such plans they know of in Afghanistan, regardless of Riccio's clarion call.

As for the video tapes allegedly found in Jalalabad, eastern Afghanistan, in mid-December, 2001, they are now widely believed to be fake. "Those who contend it's a farce or a fake are hoping for the best about an evil man," said Bush after allegations of fakery. "This is Bin Laden unedited. This is... the Bin Laden who murdered the people. This is a man who sent innocent people to their death." A C-SPAN poll taken after the tape's appearance indicated a third of the American people considered it fake. (Sadly, only a third even thought the "Osama" in the tape does not resemble the Osama of other videos and photographs.

"The Bush administration has once again failed to place the intelligence in the appropriate hands. The NRC needs to be able to take action against appropriate threats," Riccio said.

"There's a disconnect somewhere," said David Lochbaum, a nuclear engineer at the Union of Concerned Scientists. "Either President Bush didn't have an accurate account of what was found, or the NRC had the wrong picture. And the government needs to have an accurate picture in order to make the right calls. It's the old garbage in, garbage out syndrome."

Unfortunately, both Lochbaum and Riccio are clueless about the true nature of Bush and the Straussian neocons.

It is now perfectly clear Bush and Crew conspired to make a whole lot of bogus stuff up in order to trick the American people into supporting illegal and immoral invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. One doesn't even need scratch the surface anymore -- all one need do is simply look in the right direction. It's all there, out in the open -- the lies, the carelessly fabricated "intelligence," the hearsay from "Iraqi exiles" (sponsored by the Pentagon's Defense Intelligence Agency) taken as gospel truth.

The neocons have broadcast their desire to attack helpless Middle Eastern Arab nations for some time, in fact for more than a decade. It's all there in black and white, all one need do is read the documentation put out by the likes of PNAC and AEI.

More recently, the consummate neocon, Richard Perle, in a book co-authored with "Axis of Evil" speech writer David Frum, has provided a sneak peek of things to come if Bush is re-enthroned: agitate for the secession of the oil-rich eastern province of Saudi Arabia; cut off the flow of oil from Iraq to Syria (in other words, embargo, an act of war); launch preemptive strikes against North Korea's nuclear facilities (an act certain to begin another war on the Korean peninsula); work actively toward overthrowing the government of Iran (and installing Reza Pahlavi, the son of the late Shah).

Islam "seeks to overthrow our civilization and remake the nations of the West into Islamic societies imposing on the whole world its religion and law," the duo declare in their slender volume. ''There is no middle way for Americans. It is victory or holocaust."

In short, the neocon vision for America is perpetual war, hundreds of thousands if not millions of people killed, civilian infrastructure and environmental degradation, and decades of costly and troublesome occupation.

Lochbaum and Riccio suffer from a common malady of endemic proportions -- the inability or unwillingness to admit Bush is a criminal liar propped up by a coterie of conniving neocons. Few seem able to deduce the obvious -- Bush should not only be impeached, he should be tried for war crimes. Of course, that will never happen. All's the pity, too, because if Bush is elected come November the neocon Master Plan for additional and continuing serial murder and theft will commence on schedule.

We have the chance to put an end to the neocon death dance -- but not if good people like Riccio continue to think Bush "misspoke" instead of lied through his teeth. Riccio should know better. He is, after all, connected with Greenpeace, an organization currently under assail by the Bush Justice Department.
